8:00 - 9:45 a.m.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m.
The Plaza Club, 20th Floor, 900 Fort Street Mall
This session will focus on two local organizations that have set up their own captives, and is intended to help Hawaii business owners (including non-profits) understand what it takes to set up their own captive, and might be of particular interest for local medium sized companies to participate in a captive insurance program. Up to now, most Hawaii business were too small to participate in captive because their premiums were generally less than $1M.
David Kahaulelio will provide insights into why and how a large organization like Queen’s Health Systems set up its own captive. Large organizations spend at least $1 million in insurance premiums for business related risks like workers comp, general / professional liability, auto liability, etc.
Myles Murakami will provide insights into a new type of captive that was locally set up to allow medium sized local companies to participate in this group type captive. Medium sized businesses generally spend between $300,000 to $1M in premium per year.
