Emi Au

Emi Au was born and raised in southern California. After graduating from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Accounting Information Systems, she moved to Hawaii and started her career in public accounting at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. After obtaining her CPA license, she entered the financial services industry at First Hawaiian Bank, and was responsible for building out the Sarbanes-Oxley 404 controls program, developing the Bank’s accounting policies (including International Accounting Standards), and overseeing their financial reporting group. Since then, she has held various Finance positions at First Hawaiian Bank, Central Pacific Bank, and American Savings Bank. She is currently the CFO at HawaiiUSA FCU, one of the largest credit unions in the State of Hawaii.
With over 20 years of finance and accounting experience, she has led financial reporting, regulatory reporting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, risk assessments, board reporting, investor reporting, and strategic planning. She has sat on the Asset Liability Management Committee, Loan and Deposit Pricing Committee, reported regularly to the Board, and worked closely with the OCC and FDIC regulators.
Au currently serves as the Hawaii Regional Chair of U.S. Japan Council. She was a part of the inaugural class of the Patsy T. Mink Leadership Alliance in 2016 and is an alumni of the Pacific Century Fellows program. Au has been named to Pacific Business News’ “40 Under 40” (2017), Hawaii Business Magazine’s “20 for the Next 20” (2020) and “Women Who Mean Business” (2023). She is also a graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School (Class of 2013) at the University of Washington’s Graduate School of Business where she received honors and her management thesis was published in the Banking School Library.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, cats and foster kittens.
Bryan Li
Principal
BlackSand Capital
Bryan Li is a Principal at BlackSand Capital, a real estate private equity firm that’s focused solely on investing in the state of Hawaii. He is a member of the firm’s investment committee and is also responsible for BlackSand’s transactional activity and business plan execution. Bryan has been with the firm since its inception in 2010.
Prior to joining BlackSand, Bryan was at Cirrus Asset Management and Fowler Property Acquisitions where he oversaw various multifamily and commercial properties in Hawaii. After college, he began his career in the Investment Banking Division at Credit Suisse First Boston in New York.
Bryan is an active alumnus of Iolani School and Georgetown University. He was actively involved at St. Clement’s Preschool where his children attended and is currently the President of Hoo Cho Chinese School, Vice President of the Georgetown Club of Hawaii, and serves on the boards for NAIOP Hawaii and Shioi Construction. He is also a Pacific Century Fellow class of 2010.
Bryan Luke
President & Chief Executive Officer
Hawaii National Bank
Bryan Luke is the president and chief executive officer of Hawaii National Bank. He has more than two decades of experience in finance, previously serving as the bank’s chief operating officer and in roles at Standard & Poor’s and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Bryan serves on various local and national banking industry committees and boards, and is also involved in community boards such as the Hawaii Community Reinvestment Corporation; the Pacific and Asian Affairs Council; the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific; and the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii. He is chairing the Entrepreneurship Committee for the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii’s new 4Hawaii Campaign, which is working to strengthen Hawaii by focusing on the economy, environment, education and entrepreneurship.
Luke holds a bachelor’s degree from Amherst College in Massachusetts and an MBA from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Business.
